Water is a vital factor for human survival, once available in unlimited quantities. However, in recent years, many countries around the world have faced water shortages due to population growth, economic development, and the destruction of ecosystems, particularly deforestation, which has led to various natural disasters.
Awareness of water-related disasters has been stimulated and provoked global concern, including in Thailand. While Thailand's water shortage problem is currently manageable, it cannot be ignored any longer. More than 32 agencies involved in water resource management are working together to address the issue, but the water crisis is worsening due to a lack of direction, clear policies, and integrated approaches to problem-solving.
Therefore, the National Water Resources Committee was established under the Prime Minister's Office Regulation on National Water Resources Management B.E. 2532 (1989), abbreviated as "NWRC." Its functions include setting policies and systematically planning to maximize efficiency in the development, use, and conservation of water resources, and fostering relationships among various organizations in water resource management in Thailand.
